Smart Selection Extract

Coloured 3MF files

Splitting a coloured 3MF

A coloured 3MF (BambuStudio, Orca, PrusaSlicer...) is opened, set up in Pre-Split and split: every part keeps its colours in Explode mode (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

AutoShell on a coloured 3MF

The model is hollowed with AutoShell (20 mm), then split: the surface colours are kept on every part (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Extract on a coloured 3MF

The shell is selected with SmartSelection and extracted with an Interlocking closure: the extracted part keeps the colours of the 3MF (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Colorize

Painting the model

Colorize: pick a colour in the palette and paint directly on the model, area by area. The Smooth triangles option and the triangle preview show how fine the result is.

Extract

Extracting a ring

Bowser's shell is selected, then extracted as a ring with an Interlocking closure: the part fits back onto the body without play (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Several areas at once

Each selection gets its own colour: extracted together, they give one part per colour. Gaps and selection issues are fixed automatically and the parts land in the Workzone (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

A complex area with a patch

The whole shell is extracted with a Patch closure: SmartSelection scans the geometry, then Fill and Clean finish the selection. The colours of the 3MF are preserved.

Extracting with tenons

Extraction of the shell with a Single Pyramidal Tenon at 130%; the Invert tenon option puts the tenon on the other part (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Offset closure

The face mask is extracted with the Offset closure (5 mm): the closing surface follows the original shape at a constant distance.

Smooth border

After SmartSelection, the Smooth border option replaces the stepped outline with a smooth curve before extracting.

Extracting horns and spikes (1.4.0)

On a dragon, several horns and spikes are extracted one after the other with a pyramidal tenon, each part landing in the Workzone (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Claws and spikes in batch (1.4.0)

The claws, then all the spikes of the shell are extracted in batch (Batch processing), with their tenons, down to the bare body ready to print (File “Bowser” courtesy of EON3D).

Extract on macOS (1.4.0)

On a Mac, a body-panel detail is selected and extracted with a 7 mm Interlocking closure; the part appears in the Workzone.

Cut by Plane

Cutting along a curve (Spline)

The Spline mode of Cut by Plane: a curve is drawn directly on the model, point by point, then the cut follows that curve.

Pre-Split

Moving the planes with the mouse

The cutting planes are adjusted with the mouse on a car body, then Split computes the parts (accelerated calculations) and shows them in Explode mode.

Optimize: fewer parts

The Optimize button repositions the cutting planes: 239 parts with the standard planes, 203 after optimisation, for the same printer.

Swap side: partial split

Swap side changes which side of the model the planes cover: here 48 parts before, 40 after.

Explode

Explode mode on macOS

The 108 parts of a split car body, shown exploded and in colours, on Split3r for Mac.

Display

Showing the triangles

The triangle display button shows the model's mesh as a wireframe, to judge its density before preparing it.
