Frequently asked questions

The practical details about using and licensing Split3r.

About Split3r

What does Split3r do?

Split3r divides oversized 3D models into parts for standard desktop printers, with joints and labels to help with assembly. Its workflow covers preparation, cut planning, splitting and inspection.

Does it replace my slicer?

No. Prepare the parts in Split3r, then set orientation, supports and print settings in your usual slicer. Explore the workflow.

Does version 1.5.0 still use Blender for splitting?

Version 1.5.0 uses Split3r’s own cutting kernel. Descriptions of Blender as the current splitting engine refer to older versions.

How is Split3r positioned compared with LuBan?

Split3r focuses on model splitting: printer-volume planning, cut previews, configurable joints and assembly organization. Compare the specific tools and workflow with the needs of your project.

Why the “3” in Split3r?

The name is a nod to Slic3r and its place in the history of desktop 3D printing software.

Licensing & updates

Is the license a subscription?

No. Basic, Add-ons and Full are lifetime licenses. Add-ons requires Basic. See the license comparison for prices and included tools.

Can I install it on more than one computer?

Yes, across Windows, macOS and Linux. Each license permits one active computer at a time. When another computer acquires that license, another open instance using it can close automatically. Quit on the first computer before switching.

Does Split3r need an internet connection?

Yes, for activation and license verification. A short grace period accommodates temporary disconnections; it is not an offline license.

How do licenses work for a team or school?

Purchase one seat for each computer that needs to be active simultaneously. Installation can be wider than the number of seats, and the standard online license system does not require your own license server.

What updates are included?

Current beta purchases include one year of updates after the final 1.5.0 release. The published policy also covers free fixes for blocking or critical bugs after the update window. Major future versions can be paid upgrades.

Can a company use Split3r on an isolated network?

The standard edition requires online checks. On-premises and offline enterprise licensing have been described as future options after the final 1.5.0 release; availability is not confirmed for b8. Contact sales@split3r.com with your seat count, systems and network constraints.

Platforms & files

Which operating systems are supported?

The 1.5.0 b8 release is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows supports 10 and 11; the Mac build targets Apple Silicon, not Intel Macs. Check the current download page for the package matching your system.

Which file formats can I open?

STL and OBJ supply geometry, 3MF can supply geometry and painting, and .s3r reopens a Split3r project. OBJ materials and textures are not used. Basic imports 3MF geometry; Add-ons or Full is needed for the complete color workflow.

Can I run it in a virtual machine?

A virtual machine may launch Split3r, but virtualized graphics and file access are not supported. Support investigates issues reproduced on physical Windows, macOS or Linux hardware. Read the hardware guidance.

Support & trial

What support is included?

Six months of standard email support cover installation, usage questions and reproducible bugs. Training, consulting and manual repair of severely degraded files are outside standard support.

Professional support is available separately on a pay-as-you-go basis. Its published offer includes an initial response within eight hours and advanced assistance within technical limits. Contact the team for the applicable service details.

Is there a free trial?

The trial is currently suspended. An updated demo is planned after the final 1.5.0 release, but no current release date is confirmed. The videos on this site show the software in use.

What should I send with a bug report?

Send the whole Workzone as a ZIP, a short sequence of steps, the error and your system details. Follow the bug report instructions.
